Airmyn is a small riverside village in the East Riding of Yorkshire, sitting where the River Aire flows into the tidal River Ouse. Its location on this confluence gives the area a distinctly estuarine character, with flat floodplain landscapes, popular local boating and good opportunities for birdwatching on the surrounding marshes and embankments.
Historically the village has owed much to the rivers - once a focus for local trade and barge traffic - and farming still plays a part in the local economy, alongside residents who commute to nearby towns such as Goole or Kingston upon Hull. Today Airmyn retains a quiet village community feel, with a mix of traditional riverside cottages and more modern homes and an outlook shaped by its waterways and occasional flood management work.
