Swinefleet is a small, low-lying village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, set in reclaimed fenland beside the River Ouse. The landscape bears the imprint of the 17th-century drainage of Hatfield Chase, and its patchwork of drains, dykes and wet meadows makes it notable for wetlands wildlife and wintering birds as well as for a strong agricultural character.
Historically the area developed around farming and peat extraction and retains traces of its industrial past, but today the economy is mainly rural with many residents working in nearby centres such as Goole or in the wider Humber shipping and logistics area. The village has a quiet, close-knit feel with a small church and community amenities, and its setting gives it a sense of remoteness while remaining within easy reach of regional transport links.
