Thorngumbald is a small village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, sitting on the low-lying Holderness plain just inland from the Humber Estuary. It lies roughly ten to twelve miles east of Hull and within easy reach of coastal settlements such as Withernsea, so the surrounding landscape is characterised by flat, arable farmland and the drained marshes typical of the area.
Historically an agricultural community with medieval roots, Thorngumbald has evolved into something of a commuter village while retaining local amenities - a primary school, village hall, pubs and sports clubs - that keep a strong community feel. The mix of older stone and brick buildings with more modern housing, plus local events and volunteer groups, give it a quiet, village-centred social life distinct from the nearby urban bustle of Hull.
