Bures Hamlet is the small civil parish on the Essex side of the village of Bures, within the district of Braintree in Essex, England. It lies on the south bank of the River Stour, hugging the county boundary with Suffolk opposite Bures St Mary, and retains a mix of timber‑framed cottages, Victorian terraces and riverside lanes that hint at medieval origins and 19th‑century growth linked to river trade and later rail connections.
Today the parish is essentially rural, with farming, small local businesses and many residents who commute to nearer towns such as Colchester and Sudbury. It’s popular with walkers exploring the Stour Valley, and supports an active community life centred on village halls, pubs and seasonal fêtes, making it a picturesque spot valued for both heritage and countryside living.
