Ashingdon is a village and civil parish in the district of Rochford, in Essex, England. It occupies the northern edge of the Dengie peninsula near the River Crouch, giving a largely rural impression of arable fields, salt marsh and scattered housing, while many residents commute to nearby Southend-on-Sea, Chelmsford or London.
The village is best known for its association with the 1016 Battle of Assandun and the early medieval St Andrew’s church, long linked in local tradition to King Cnut and still a focal point for community life. Today Ashingdon maintains a close-knit social scene centred on the church, village hall and primary school, with small local businesses and farming forming the backbone of the local economy.
