Ashdon is a small village and civil parish in the district of Uttlesford, in north‑west Essex, set on rolling, agricultural countryside close to the Cambridgeshire border and a few miles north‑west of Saffron Walden. It feels traditionally English, with historic cottages and a parish church, and is locally linked to the 1016 Battle of Assandun - a connection that features in village lore even though historians still debate the exact site.
Today Ashdon retains a strong rural character: farming remains important but the village also has an active community life with a village hall, clubs and annual events, and a number of residents who commute to nearby towns and cities such as Saffron Walden, Cambridge or London. The combination of countryside, historic buildings and community activity gives it the feel of a small, well‑connected Essex village.
