English Bicknor is a small village and civil parish on the eastern bank of the River Wye in the western part of the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, England, opposite Welsh Bicknor. Its valley location within the Wye Valley gives dramatic limestone wooded slopes and makes it a popular spot for walkers, canoeists and other visitors to the riverside; the nearby riverside campsite at Biblins underlines its recreational appeal.
The settlement retains a strong rural character with historic features - an ancient parish church containing Norman fabric and earthwork remains of a medieval motte and bailey often referred to locally as Bicknor Castle speak to its long borderland past. Traditionally rooted in farming and forestry, the local economy now mixes agriculture with tourism and commuting, and the village keeps a close-knit community feel with occasional local events and volunteering that sustain village life.
