Situated on the banks of the River Severn within the western edge of the Forest of Dean district of Gloucestershire in England, Newnham is a small riverside village and civil parish whose position on the tidal Severn made it a modest but busy local port for timber, coal and other goods. The landscape around the village mixes ancient woodland, farmland and broad estuary, so there are still visible reminders of riverside industry in old wharves and boatyards and plenty of wildlife and riverside walks to enjoy.
Today Newnham retains a close-knit community feel with village amenities, a couple of pubs and local events; the economy blends small-scale farming, tourism and commuting to nearby towns. Its historic ties to seafaring and forest industries give the place a lived-in, historic character rather than a purely modern commuter settlement.
