Dursley is a market town and civil parish in the district of Stroud, Gloucestershire, England, sitting beneath the limestone escarpment of the Cotswold Edge on the western fringe of the Cotswolds. The town has a compact historic centre and enjoys easy access to countryside walking and scenic viewpoints, making it popular with visitors and commuters who appreciate village-scale amenities close to rural green space.
Historically a market and cloth town, Dursley later developed a strong engineering and manufacturing presence - most notably firms such as Lister and Lister Petter - which shaped its 19th–20th century growth. Today the local economy mixes light industry, independent shops and services, and a busy community life with markets, a small museum and seasonal events; the area is also served by Cam and Dursley railway station, providing links into the wider region. The town’s name has a wider cultural recognition too, having been used by J.K. Rowling for the Dursley family in the Harry Potter books.
