Four Marks is a large village and civil parish in the district of East Hampshire, in rural Hampshire between the market towns of Alton and Alresford. It sits on gently rolling chalk downland and heath, and its name is said to come from the meeting of four parish boundaries; the settlement only really expanded from scattered farms and smallholdings in the late 19th and early 20th centuries rather than being an ancient nucleated village.
Today Four Marks is largely residential with a mix of local shops, schools, sports clubs and community organisations, and it serves as a commuter base for nearby towns and Winchester. The village is linked to the preserved Watercress Line at Medstead and Four Marks station, which underlines both its rural character and its appeal to visitors; local history, active societies and regular community events give it a strong village identity despite steady modern growth.
