Medstead is a rural village in the district of East Hampshire in Hampshire, England, set amid rolling Hampshire countryside a short distance from the market town of Alton and adjoining Four Marks. The surroundings have the chalk downland character typical of the area, with lanes and footpaths popular with walkers and a compact village core that includes a conservation area of older houses and a parish church.
Historically an agricultural community, Medstead today combines local farming with a mix of commuters and long‑standing residents; it attracts visitors thanks to the preserved Mid Hants Railway, often called the Watercress Line, whose steam services call at Medstead & Four Marks station and run through to Alton. Village life centres on a village hall, pubs and occasional fetes and events that sustain a strong local community spirit.
