Stoke is a small village and suburban quarter within the borough of Havant in Hampshire, on the eastern side of the town not far from the salt marshes and shore of Langstone Harbour. Its location between the coast and the A27 corridor means it retains a semi-rural feel while being close to the larger urban centres of Havant and Portsmouth, with easy access to coastal footpaths, birdwatching and other outdoor pursuits centred on the estuary and nearby Hayling Island.
Like many places called Stoke, it grew from a small agricultural settlement into a suburban community; you still find older cottages and a village-centred social life alongside modern housing. Economically it functions largely as a residential and commuter area with links into Portsmouth’s naval and commercial employment, and locally the community revolves around its church, halls and pubs, with a quieter, coastal character compared with the nearby urban centres.
