Hayling West sits on the western half of Hayling Island in the borough of Havant, Hampshire, England, with sandy beaches and shingle foreshore facing the sheltered waters of Langstone Harbour. The ward includes the main island settlement of West Town and the Sinah headland, where the Hayling Island Sailing Club and the open common at Sinah Common give a strong coastal and recreational character.
Once part of the island’s Victorian seaside resort development, the area now mixes long‑standing residents and seasonal holidaymakers, with an economy centred on tourism, small local businesses and watersports. The former railway line, known locally as the Hayling Billy, is now a popular walking and cycling route to Havant, and the shoreline and harbour remain important for nature, sailing clubs and community activities, while many people commute to nearby Portsmouth.
