Brading is a small historic town on the east of the Isle of Wight, set just inland from the old tidal channel of Brading Haven and beneath the grassy ridge of Brading Down. Once an active little seaport until the haven silted up, it now sits close to the resort towns of Sandown and Ryde, with a mix of farmland, nature reserve and commuter/visitor trade shaping its landscape.
The town is best known for the Brading Roman Villa, an archaeological site and museum with impressive mosaics, and a compact historic centre with an ancient parish church and community events. The local economy leans on tourism, agriculture and local services, and the social life feels typically close‑knit for a small island town, with volunteer groups, fetes and seasonal visitors adding to its character.
