Yaverland

Yaverland is a small coastal village and bay on the eastern side of the Isle of Wight, just north of Sandown. The shoreline is a mix of shingle and sand backed by low Cretaceous cliffs, and the foreshore is well known for fossil finds and occasional dinosaur footprints exposed at low tide, making it a draw for walkers and amateur palaeontologists alike.

The settlement is largely oriented towards tourism, with holiday accommodation, caravan sites and a relaxed local community; pockets of wildlife-rich habitat and the nearby downland add to its appeal. There are also reminders of the island’s past in the form of historic buildings and remnants of 19th– and 20th‑century defences, so it’s a quiet spot that combines natural interest with a sense of local history.
