The area includes the former mining villages of Aylesham, Eythorne and Shepherdswell on the northern side of Dover in Kent, England. It is a mix of inter‑war terraces and later housing set against farmland and rolling chalk downland, roughly between Dover and Canterbury, with plenty of footpaths and countryside on the doorstep.
Aylesham was laid out in the 1920s to house miners working at Snowdown Colliery, and that industrial heritage still shapes a strong local identity and community life; social hubs include village halls, memorials and active sports clubs. Shepherdswell and Eythorne add a more traditional village feel, with the preserved East Kent Railway and local pubs and churches underlining the area’s blend of rural charm, commuter links and post‑industrial regeneration.
