Scholes is a small village in the metropolitan borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, sitting on the fringe of the Pennines. It has the character of a traditional West Yorkshire settlement, with stone terraces and former mill buildings that reflect its historic links to the woollen and textile trades, and it lies not far from Holmfirth and the larger service centre of Huddersfield.
Today Scholes is largely a quiet, semi-rural community popular with walkers and commuters, offering easy access to moorland and local pubs while retaining a strong village feel; local events and grassroots organisations help keep social life lively despite its modest size.
