Marsden is a sizable village in the metropolitan borough of Kirklees, West Yorkshire, sitting in the upper Colne Valley at the western edge of the Pennines and close to the Peak District. It offers dramatic moorland scenery - notably Marsden Moor - and sits beside the historic Huddersfield Narrow Canal and the Standedge tunnels, giving good access for walkers and visitors to the surrounding gritstone ridges and peatland habitats.
Historically the village grew on woollen mills and the transport links of canals and railways, and much of that industrial heritage still shapes the townscape. Today Marsden combines a strong local community with small independent shops, outdoor-focused tourism and commuters travelling to nearby Huddersfield, while events, conservation projects and the canal/railway heritage continue to attract visitors.
