Throckley is a village and suburb on the western edge of Newcastle upon Tyne, sitting above the River Tyne and close to the Northumberland countryside. It still has a village atmosphere - small shops, a primary school and a couple of pubs - while being within easy commuting distance of the city.
Historically the area grew up around coal‑mining, quarries and brickworks, and traces of that industrial past remain in the landscape; today Throckley is a mix of suburban housing, pockets of light industry and access to walking routes into the Tyne Valley. It’s popular with people who value a strong local community and countryside on the doorstep without losing urban amenities.
