South Lopham is a small rural village and civil parish in the district of Breckland, in the county of Norfolk in England, sitting close to the county border with Suffolk. It lies beside the gentle valley of the River Waveney and adjoins the neighbouring village of North Lopham, surrounded by arable farmland and the patchwork of hedgerows and lanes typical of this part of East Anglia.
Historically the Lophams grew up around watermills and agriculture, and the area retains a strong rural character: traditional cottages, a village church and community activities are important locally, while many residents now commute to nearby market towns such as Diss or to Norwich for work and services. Conservation and local farming remain central to the parish’s economy and social life, giving it a quiet, close‑knit feel.
