Horkstow is a small village and civil parish in rural North Lincolnshire, set in the low-lying fen and river valley of the River Ancholme and within easy reach of the Humber estuary and the market towns of Barton-upon-Humber and Caistor. The surrounding landscape is largely arable and characterised by hedged fields, drained pastures and a scattering of historic farmsteads.
Locally the economy remains largely agricultural with a mix of commuters and local crafts; the community is centred on its church and village hall and retains several attractive historic buildings such as Horkstow Hall. The area is also archaeologically interesting: a Romano-British mosaic was discovered nearby, and the parish’s long rural history is reflected in its traditional cottages, lanes and seasonal village activities.
