Owston Ferry is a small riverside village in North Lincolnshire sitting on the west bank of the River Trent. Its position made it a traditional crossing to the nearby Isle of Axholme and villages such as Haxey, and you can still see earthwork remains of a motte-and-bailey castle and an old parish church that hint at its medieval past.
Today the village has a largely agricultural hinterland with many residents commuting to nearby towns such as Scunthorpe, while locally life revolves around riverside walks, fishing and community events; the Trent’s floodplain also makes the area notable for wetland birdlife and seasonal landscapes that attract visitors looking for quiet countryside and boating opportunities.
