Hawkswick is a tiny civil parish in Littondale, lying within the Yorkshire Dales National Park in North Yorkshire and administered as part of Craven. Tucked into a quiet valley, it is characterised by limestone scars, drystone walls and scattered field barns, with upland ridges such as Great Whernside giving a distinctly rugged skyline and plenty of opportunities for walking and birdwatching.
Historically shaped by medieval agriculture and the small-scale lead-mining traditions of the Dales, the local economy is still largely pastoral, with tourism and hillwalking providing extra income. The population is very small and services are limited, so residents tend to rely on nearby villages like Arncliffe or market towns such as Grassington, yet the area retains a quiet, traditional Dales character.
