Halton Gill is a tiny upland parish tucked into Littondale in the Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire, known for its steep valley sides, limestone scars and open moorland. The settlement is very small and sparsely populated, with traditional stone-built farmhouses and drystone walls that speak of a long history of sheep farming and other upland agriculture.
Historically the wider dale saw some lead working, but today the local economy is largely agricultural with a growing element of tourism: walkers and hill‑goers use the lanes and rights of way as a quiet base for exploring the surrounding fells. Socially it retains a close-knit feel, with a scattered community that values the landscape and seasonal rhythms of rural life.
