Settle is a small market town and civil parish in North Yorkshire, sitting on the floodplain of the River Ribble at the northern edge of the Yorkshire Dales. The town’s sandstone and limestone streets cluster around a compact market square and it is framed by moorland and limestone scars that make it a popular base for walkers, cavers and anyone drawn to dramatic Dales scenery.
Historically a market and coaching centre, Settle has a strong local community, independent shops, cafés and pubs and an economy still rooted in agriculture and tourism. The nearby Settle-Carlisle Railway and the iconic Ribblehead Viaduct give the town wider historic interest - the line famously survived a threatened closure in the 1980s - and regular markets and cultural events keep the town lively throughout the year.
