Prudhoe is a small town and civil parish in Northumberland on the south bank of the River Tyne, about eleven miles west of Newcastle upon Tyne. The town is dominated by the stone keep of Prudhoe Castle, a medieval stronghold overlooking the river, and sits at the eastern end of the Tyne Valley, with pleasant riverside walks and easy access to the green landscapes and Roman remains of Hadrian's Wall country.
Historically linked to coal mining and railway engineering, the area expanded in the 19th and 20th centuries and today functions largely as a commuter and local service centre, with light industry, shops and a station on the Tyne Valley Line providing links to Newcastle upon Tyne and Carlisle. A strong community life, sports clubs and local groups help retain a village feel despite suburban growth.
