Saddleworth North is the northern portion of the old Saddleworth parish within the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, sitting against the rolling moorland of the Pennines. The ward combines a ribbon of historic mill villages and hamlets with open countryside, giving a strong rural feel despite being administratively part of Greater Manchester.
It has a distinct local identity rooted in its textile history and its past as part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, and today leverages tourism, outdoor recreation and a commuter relationship with Manchester. Community life is lively for a small area, with active village halls, pubs and annual traditions such as the Whit Friday brass-band events that attract visitors from across the region.
