Barnack is a compact village and civil parish in the unitary authority of Peterborough, historically part of the Soke of Peterborough in Northamptonshire. It sits on a notable ridge of oolitic limestone whose quarried "Barnack stone" supplied great medieval buildings across eastern England, including parts of local cathedrals, and helped fund the handsome Norman and Anglo‑Saxon features of the village church of St John the Baptist.
Nearby Barnack Hills & Holes is a celebrated reserve of undulating medieval quarryland, prized for limestone grassland flora such as pasqueflowers and orchids, which draws walkers and naturalists. Today the community retains agricultural roots while many residents commute to Peterborough or the nearby market town of Stamford, and village life centres on the church, primary school and local events that celebrate its long historic and environmental heritage.
