Maxey is a small village and civil parish in the City of Peterborough unitary authority, in the ceremonial county of Cambridgeshire. It sits in the low-lying Fens, close to the River Welland and a network of drains and dykes, so the surrounding landscape is largely flat, intensely farmed arable land with good opportunities for birdwatching and other wildlife interests.
The village has medieval roots and still shows its history in a compact centre of older buildings and a parish community; agriculture remains important to the local economy, while many residents commute to Peterborough or nearby Stamford for work. Local life centres on village events and amenities such as the hall and green, and the rural setting makes it popular with people who value country living within easy reach of larger towns.
