Helpston is a small village and civil parish in the unitary authority of Peterborough, in Cambridgeshire, sitting on the edge of the River Welland valley close to the borders with Lincolnshire and Rutland. It has a rural character shaped by agriculture, though many residents now commute to nearby towns; narrow lanes and attractive stone cottages give it the feel of a traditional English village.
The village is best known as the birthplace of the poet John Clare and his home is preserved as the John Clare Cottage museum, which helps keep a lively cultural strand in village life with readings and events. Helpston also retains a strong community spirit around its village hall, primary school and local clubs, while historic buildings and memorials reflect a long local history that draws visitors interested in literature and the countryside.
