Coatham is a coastal ward in the borough of Redcar and Cleveland, on the North Yorkshire stretch of the North Sea coast just north of Redcar town centre. It takes in the promenade and Coatham Sands, with a mix of Victorian seafront housing, small-scale leisure facilities and everyday local shops that reflect its roots as a traditional seaside locality; a historic pier that once marked the seafront no longer survives.
Life in the ward blends seasonal tourism and café culture with ordinary residential streets and some social housing, and the community has felt the wider economic shifts of Teesside, including the fallout from the steelworks closures in the 2010s. There has been steady interest in coastal regeneration and heritage projects, and the area remains valued for its accessible seafront and links into the wider Redcar community and attractions.
