Bickenhall is a small, rural parish in Somerset, set on the fringes of the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Rather than a compact village it comprises scattered farms and houses linked by quiet lanes, with the sort of rolling pasture, hedgerows and small woodland that draw walkers and nature lovers; the market town of Taunton is the nearest larger centre for services and commuting.
The local economy remains largely agricultural, supplemented by people who commute or work in tourism and conservation connected with the surrounding landscape. Socially and historically it is a modest, close-knit place with a number of older rural buildings and a community that tends to revolve around occasional village events and efforts to protect the character of the countryside.
