Crewkerne in Somerset is a compact market town with medieval roots, a handsome high street of Tudor and Georgian buildings and a prominent medieval church, St Bartholomew's Church. Set close to the edge of the Blackdown Hills and near the Dorset border, it retains a strong local character with a small museum, independent shops, antiques dealers and a lively community arts scene that reflects its textile‑working past.
The town grew on wool and linen manufacture and, while that industry has long declined, it now supports light industry, retail and a significant commuter population. Good rail and road links - including a station on the line between London and Exeter and easy routes to Yeovil and Taunton - keep it connected while local groups and regular markets maintain a strong social life.
