Ilchester in Somerset, England is a small village on the banks of the River Yeo, set in rolling agricultural country between Yeovil and Taunton and close to the Somerset Levels. Its compact centre and riverside setting give it a quiet, rural character while remaining within easy reach of larger towns.
Historically it began as a Roman settlement, known as Lindinis, and later became a medieval borough that even returned members to Parliament until the Reform Act of 1832; traces of its past survive in earthworks, the parish church and other historic buildings. Today Ilchester is largely residential with farming and small local businesses, and a small but active community that values its long history.
