Rode is a compact village and civil parish on the Somerset–Wiltshire border, a few miles east of Frome and within sight of the Mendip Hills. It occupies a sheltered spot in the valley of the River Frome, with a stone-built village core, narrow lanes and a mix of older agricultural buildings and later cottages that give it a distinctly rural character despite its proximity to larger towns.
Historically the area was tied to farming and the West Country cloth trade, and the village still centres on a parish church, village hall and at least one traditional pub; many residents now commute to Bath, Frome or further afield. Rode remains popular with walkers and riders, and its community life - fêtes, clubs and local events - helps preserve a strong village identity while offering easy access to regional services and countryside recreation.
