Upper Tone is an electoral ward in Somerset that takes its name from the nearby River Tone and sits on the outskirts of Taunton. It mixes suburban neighbourhoods with stretches of open countryside and riverside green space, so residents often benefit from easy access to both local shops and quieter walking routes along the Tone valley.
The area has grown out of a long agricultural history into a mainly residential community with pockets of older Victorian housing and later 20th‑century developments. Its economy and social life are closely tied to Taunton, with commuters, local community groups and modest small businesses making up much of the local character, while continuing interest in the river corridor gives the ward a pleasant semi‑rural feel.
