Essington is a village and civil parish in the district of South Staffordshire, in the county of Staffordshire, England, sitting on the northern fringe of the West Midlands conurbation close to Wolverhampton and Walsall. The setting mixes suburban housing with surrounding agricultural land and pockets of woodland, and the historic Wyrley and Essington Canal runs nearby, popular with walkers and boaters.
Historically the village had a strong coal‑mining presence and that industrial past still shapes the local landscape and place names, but today Essington is largely a residential commuter community with local shops, pubs and active village organisations; its village hall and parish activities help keep a strong local identity despite the proximity of bigger towns.
