The Churnet ward sits within the district of Staffordshire Moorlands in Staffordshire, in central England, taking in part of the scenic valley of the River Churnet. It is a largely rural area of small villages, woodlands and river corridors, prized for walking, cycling and wildlife; the area is also associated with the preserved Churnet Valley Railway, which highlights the valley’s industrial heritage.
Historically the community grew around 18th–19th century mills, quarries and transport links, leaving a visible legacy of industrial archaeology alongside conservation areas. Today the local economy is balanced between agriculture, small local businesses and tourism, with community life centred on village halls, pubs and outdoor pursuits and nearby market towns such as Leek providing additional services.
