Capel St Mary is a village and civil parish in the district of Babergh, in rural Suffolk, England, lying roughly six miles south of Ipswich. It sits on the edge of the town’s commuter belt amid lanes, farmland and pockets of former orchards and market-gardens, so while distinctly rural in feel it has good road links into East Anglia and beyond.
Historically named for its medieval chapel to St Mary, the village retains a traditional core around the parish church and older cottages alongside post-war and more recent housing. Local life is centred on a primary school, village hall and community groups, with a mix of small shops and trades; agriculture and market-gardening have long shaped the area, though many residents now commute to nearby towns for work.
