Cranleigh West sits on the western side of the large village of Cranleigh in the borough of Waverley, Surrey, England. It is a semi-rural ward made up of residential streets, smallholdings and paddocks, with pleasant green corridors and a network of pedestrian routes that follow parts of the old Cranleigh railway line closed in the 1960s. The area benefits from road links towards Guildford and Horsham and lies close enough to the rolling landscapes of the Surrey Hills to feel distinctly countryside rather than urban suburbia.
Historically rooted in agriculture and market gardening, the ward now combines a village-centre feel of shops, pubs and local services with a commuter population and a number of small businesses and light industrial units on its edges. Community life is lively for a place of this size, with active sports clubs, arts activities and parish events, while nearby institutions such as Cranleigh School contribute to the local character and economy.
