Godalming is a historic parish and market town in the borough of Waverley, county of Surrey, in England. It sits on the banks of the River Wey at the edge of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with a high street of timber-framed and Georgian buildings, a local museum and a lively independent shopping scene.
Long associated with milling and the wool trade, Godalming is also notable for having one of the earliest public electricity supplies (installed in 1881). The local economy is centred on retail, professional services and tourism, and the town’s riverside walks, towpaths on the Wey Navigation and good rail links to London make it popular with commuters and community groups staging arts events and festivals.
