Compton is a small village and civil parish in the Borough of Guildford, in the county of Surrey, England, lying a few miles south‑west of Guildford town centre. It sits on the lower slopes of the North Downs amid chalk downland and mixed woodland, with a network of footpaths and attractive countryside that make it popular with walkers and day visitors.
The village is perhaps best known for its artistic heritage linked to the Victorian painter G. F. Watts, visible at the Watts Gallery, his former home Limnerslease and the ornate Watts Chapel. Historically agricultural, Compton today combines farming with a commuter population who travel to Guildford and London; small local businesses, community groups and visitors to the gallery give it a lively, village atmosphere.
