Hattersley is a large suburban estate in Tameside, on the eastern edge of Greater Manchester in England. It sits on a plateau above the Tame valley close to the fringe of the Pennines, so residents have relatively easy access to moorland and countryside walks towards Saddleworth.
Built mainly in the 1960s and 1970s as an overspill estate for Manchester, Hattersley is predominantly residential with a mix of council and private housing, local shops and community facilities; it has undergone waves of regeneration in recent decades. The area is served by a station on the line to Glossop, and despite facing social and economic challenges over the years it retains a strong local community and active neighbourhood groups.
