Aldermaston is a village and civil parish in West Berkshire, England, set in the Kennet Valley where the River Kennet and the nearby Kennet and Avon Canal thread through rolling downland at the edge of the North Wessex Downs. It sits between Reading and Newbury, with a mix of attractive historic cottages, a medieval parish church and a waterside character around Aldermaston Wharf.
The village is probably best known nationally for the presence of the Atomic Weapons Establishment, which has shaped its economy and identity and made it the focal point for the famous Aldermaston anti‑nuclear marches of the late 1950s onwards. Locally there’s a quieter rural life - small businesses, farming and commuters to nearby towns - alongside a community conscious of its history and countryside setting.
