Greenham is a civil parish in West Berkshire, England, immediately south of Newbury, sitting in the low-lying Kennet valley with the heathland of Greenham Common at its heart. The common, once an RAF grass airfield and later a US base, is now a country park and nature reserve with walking routes, rich birdlife and open heath and sits close to the River Kennet.
The parish’s identity is strongly shaped by its military past - RAF Greenham Common and the 1980s women’s peace camp remain important historical and cultural touchstones - and by post-closure redevelopment that added housing, business space and memorials. Many residents commute via the nearby M4 or Newbury station, while local life often revolves around outdoor recreation on the common and a small community clustered on the town’s edge.
