Allithwaite is a small village on the Cartmel Peninsula in the unitary authority of Westmorland and Furness, England, sitting close to the edge of the Lake District National Park and overlooking the meadows that run down towards Morecambe Bay. It lies a short distance from Cartmel and Grange-over-Sands, giving it a quiet rural feel while being handy for popular walking, cycling and coastal routes.
Historically rooted in agriculture and stone-built cottages, the village shares in the local tourism economy driven by nearby attractions such as Cartmel’s food and racecourse scene, as well as visitors to the Lake District National Park. Administratively the area was part of Cumbria until local government changes placed it in Westmorland and Furness, and today it remains a small, close-knit community with a mix of farming, holiday lets and local clubs and amenities.
