Swarthmoor is a small village on the Furness peninsula in the unitary authority of Westmorland and Furness, England, lying a couple of miles from Ulverston and within easy reach of the southern Lake District and the low Furness fells. It occupies a rural, slightly sheltered spot with farmland, hedgerows and attractive walking country, while the coast and larger towns are only a short drive away.
Historically the village is best known for Swarthmoor Hall, the 17th‑century manor that became a focal point for the early Quaker movement and still draws interest from visitors and historians. Today the local economy is a mix of agriculture, small businesses and commuters travelling to nearby centres such as Barrow-in-Furness, and the community retains a village‑scale social life with footpaths, a village hall and a couple of pubs popular with walkers and locals.
