Fonthill Gifford is a small rural village and civil parish in south Wiltshire, England, set amid rolling chalk downland and parkland. The landscape is dominated by the story and remnants of the early‑19th‑century Fonthill Abbey project and the ornamental water of Fonthill Lake, which give the area a strongly designed, historic character.
Locally the community is quiet and largely estate- and agriculture‑based, with cottages, farmsteads and much land in private ownership. Its dramatic architectural past - notably the ambitions of William Beckford and the vanished abbey - attracts interest from local historians and walkers, while the parish sits within easy reach of market towns such as Tisbury and the cathedral city of Salisbury.
