The villages of Ogbourne St. Andrew and Ogbourne Maizey sit in the Kennet valley just north of Marlborough in Wiltshire, tucked into the chalk landscape of the North Wessex Downs AONB. Both are closely associated with the small River Og, a tributary of the Kennet, and are a mix of linear settlement along the valley floor and scattered hamlet homes on the lower slopes.
They are traditionally agricultural places - with a medieval parish church in Ogbourne St. Andrew and a handful of historic farmhouses and cottages in Ogbourne Maizey - and have long links to woodland and downland uses such as grazing and horse work. Today the villages retain a tight-knit, rural community atmosphere while many residents commute to nearby towns; they also benefit from proximity to features like Savernake Forest and the prehistoric barrows of the downs, which give the area a strong sense of layered history.
