Wilton in Wiltshire is a small market town just outside Salisbury, sitting on the banks of the River Nadder. It has a long history as a Saxon and medieval settlement and was once the county town before Salisbury took prominence; remnants of that past survive in the street plan, the parish church and the site of the old Wilton Abbey.
The town is best known for Wilton House, the grand Jacobean-Palladian estate with notable interiors, parkland and frequent film and TV appearances, and for the long tradition of weaving associated with Wilton Carpets. Today it feels much like a classic English market town - a mix of independent shops, light industry tied to local manufacturing and agriculture, and an active community calendar rooted in its historic setting.
